Bubble tea first gained popularity in Taiwan in the 1980s as a cold tea-based drink mixed with milk, sugar, and chewy tapioca pearls, also known as “boba.” In the 1990s, it spread to other parts of Asia, including China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The drink’s appeal was driven by its unique taste, texture, and customizable options, as well as its association with Asian culture and lifestyle.
Social media and a younger demographic further fueled bubble tea’s popularity, with influencers and food bloggers sharing photos and reviews of the drink on platforms like Instagram. Aside from the antioxidant health benefits of tea, Gong cha provides the ability to customize healthier options by tailoring sugar and toppings and opting for green tea and matcha.

In the next three years, we added almost 200 more locations and started rebranding to better serve our customers and franchise owners. Today, we have over 2,000 locations across 23 countries.
